Embezzlement Offences on the Spotlight
The Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB) has been in the spotlight in 2013 for prosecuting several high-profile corruption cases but a senior CPIB officer is now being investigated by the Commercial Affairs Department (CAD) for financial impropriety.
Lawyer Gloria James highlighted that cases undertaken by the CAD are often those that involve significant sums of money. Ms James further mentioned that CAD deals with white-collar crimes such as fraud relation to companies. Given that time has to be spent investigating the accounts of the organisations involved, focus is generally placed on cases involving large amounts of money.
